Create Award Winning Resumes And Cover Letters

I am just out of college and am applying to a job in my field. All my previous work experience is part-time retail. My volunteer experience however has to do with my field and is pertinent to the job I am applying for. Should I put Volunteer Experience ahead of Employment Experience on my resume? I've always been taught to do it the other way around… Thanks!!
The volunteer work occurred while I was working retail so they were at the same time.

Yes - make RELEVANT experience to the position you want more prominent in your resume. You should also make the positions more or less chronological to make the resume easier to read.

Good luck

  1. Racquel W Said,

Put your work experience in the order that they occur. If you had volunteer work before a paid job then go right ahead. Most employers are glad to see that you actually did voluntary work.
