Most people have no trouble evaluating a CV example created by someone else but are not able to do the same for themselves. Some people create an example CV because they want a template to use when applying for jobs. Still others are determined to profit from the example CV they create by selling it online.  Knowing how to find a good cv example is the key.

You may have created an example of a CV for either of these reasons or for some other purpose but you surely want to make sure the example you created is exceptional. For this reason, it is critical for you to go through the process of critiquing the CV example you created.

It may sound overly obvious but before you do anything else, take the time to thoroughly proofread your example. Take the time to really make sure the example is free of grammar errors or misspellings. If you are selling the samples for profit, the content will likely be changed but you still want to make sure everything is correct. The next thing you should do when critiquing your example is to take an objective look at the layout. Ask yourself whether or not it is easy to read and if there is anything that stands out as being out of place. Try different fonts and text sizes to determine what looks best.

It is also a good idea to determine whether or not the sample reads well. You have already checked for spelling and grammar mistakes but now you want to make sure the flow is okay. You can read the example out loud to get a good idea of whether or not something does not sound right.

The last thing you might want to do is consider having another person critique your CV example. You should wait until you have had a chance to do your own review and catch most of the mistakes before asking someone else to critique your example. Another person may be able to find mistakes you did not catch. This may sound like a long process but it will really help to make sure the example you create is great. Far too many people underestimate the importance of resume cover letters. In a sense, a well written cover letter works like an agent on your behalf. It tosses a sales pitch for you to the employer, explaining why you should be at the top of the list for interview calls. Taking the time to write a cover letter tells the employer you are willing to go above and beyond; not just simply slap a resume in an envelope and mail it.

The real question is, are all these stunts and extreme job hunting strategies effective in getting the ultimate reward - The Job! Or will it damage your credibility in a way that you can never recover from even if you do get an initial interview?.

Address resume cover letters to an actual entity, not just a generic “To Whom it May Concern” or “Personnel Director.” If you are not sure who to address, find out and then make sure you spell their name correctly. Do not just assume.

2State who referred you or how you found out about the job opening. “Linda McCain mentioned that you might be hiring a new computer programmer soon.” or “I learned about your opening for a Sales Associate from your posting in the San Francisco Sun and would like to discuss a few ways I can contribute to your team”.

Resume cover letters should discuss how you can help the employer, not about why you need the job. The employer has posted a job opening because they need that position filled and they need the best candidate to fill it. Convince them why you are that person.

The one thing that ties the extreme hunter winners from the losers is still holding true to traditional methods…..one of the most important of these is the Resume Cover Letter - how would you feel if I told you it might even be more important than the resume itself!.
